Fear and uneasiness
When a war breaks out, clients get concerned that the stock market will go into a tailspin. That is not the case most of the time, but that doesn’t mean clients aren’t worried.
The fastest way to lose clients is a lack of timely and consistent communication.

Stock Market Returns 3-, 12-, and 18-Months After a Major Military Conflict
Joe created an interactive chart that shows the return of the S&P 500 following the last 12 major conflicts. To try the interactive chart for yourself, click here. Here are the average numbers for those 12 conflicts.
5.5% is the 3-month average return
13.2% is the 12-month average return
16.8% is the 18-month average return
9 of the 12 conflicts produced positive stock market returns (see the following chart).
Risk On/Risk Off (RORO) February Returns
Last week’s newsletter was on a RORO investment strategy that generated an 8.23% gross rate of return in January. The gross return for RORO for February is 2.63%.
The S&P 500 returns were 1.47% in January and -0.86% in February.
RORO will have a few new assets in March, but we will re-run the quantitative analysis mid-week after financial data from the war comes out to determine if it needs further tweaking.
